We Came As Romans - Mis//Understanding
Kylie x Kendall
Happiness is a choice.
There is so much I want to say right now about so many different things, but I guess thing that matters most to me is this quest for happiness. It’s an obvious statement that we all are living our lives in hopes of finding eternal and genuine bliss, but are constantly greeted by conflicts, hardships, setbacks, and excuse my language- but absolute shit. Shit happens. It’s inevitable. I always regarded everything with the saying that’s tattooed on my wrist “this too shall pass” meaning if you’re going through a rough time, hold on and keep trekking because you will get through it. Same for the reverse, if you’re in a ecstatic period of your life, appreciate every minute and don’t take it for granted because everything is temporary.
But sometimes the shit that happens HAS to happen in order for you to be happy. Yes, the scoffed-at cliche “everything happens for a reason.” You may not realize it now, or realize it until much later, but you will realize it. And it will all be worth it. You’ll have hard days that you won’t want to talk to anyone, and others where being left alone feels like it’s not even an option. I don’t know the key to happiness, I’m lost trying to find it much like everyone else, but I do know it starts with yourself.
I remember reading a statistic somewhere that your conscientious-ness develops the most around your 20’s. Falling in that age demographic, I’m faced daily with figuring out who I am and especially in this harsh non-accepting world that has been created around us with the partnership of blunt social media- it’s hard as ever. There will be so many people just waiting for you to slip up, dissecting your life from a distance trying to fabricate reasons to bring you down. In the midst of all of the negativity, just like you choose to be happy, you have to choose to rise above and pay no mind to any of these mindless opinions. Honestly? How are we supposed to “find ourselves” and discover who we are as people when we’re constantly being criticized by our peers? The only answer I’ve got is that it doesn’t matter what other people think. Happiness starts within ourselves.
I’ve been watching a lot of Jennifer Lawrence interviews lately because of how charismatically down to earth and funny she is. But upon watching video after video, I’ve realized she is such a refreshing personality because she is absolutely true to herself and happy with who she is. Her mindset on Hollywood, self-image, even miniscule subjects really shows how beautiful of a person she is. There are a million (don’t quote me on the exact number) of interviews on YouTube, if you ever need a bit more confirmation that you are enough in this crazy, superficial, cruel world- watch a few. You won’t regret it.(via meganbatoon)
